Straight out of their spontaneous update for Tribes: Ascend, Hi-Rez Studios have finally freed its new team-based shooter/TCG hybrid from its closed beta shackles. Downloadable through Steam, Paladins is now in a state of Open Beta, meaning anyone can download and play the title before it officially launches as a free-to-play title in the future.
Todd Harris, the co-founder of the company describes Paladins as a “team shooter with a fantasy setting, a sense of humor, and a high degree of customization and strategy”. In a world where every developer seems to be throwing their own hybrid spin on the traditional shooter genre, it’s no surprised to see Hi-Rez taking aim at the eSports scene yet again.
For those coming out of the prior Closed Beta test, the latest build comes with an updated interface, third map and the ability to mix and match individual parts of a character’s skin. As disgusting as that sounds in practice, it’s certainly a rather unique concept.
