Since release, a handful of Overwatch heroes have received changes both minor and major to their moveset once the millions of active players offered sufficient data for Blizzard to make the crucial decisions. And while many characters' 'Ultimate' abilities have seen changes over the past few months, Symmetra is the first to gain a pair of the powerful moves.
Now live on the public test realms, Symmetra's radical changes do more than offer her a second choice when it comes to the strategic use of her charged Ultimate ability.
Rather than the single teleport hub that would allow her teammates to quickly blink back into the fight, the 'Shield Generator' Ultimate allows the support character to place a machine that will offer up passive shields to any ally within its extended radius regardless of any obstacle between the player and the construction.
It may not reflect the Symmetra changes, but our Overwatch Video Review still helps when it comes to learning about the game's core goals.
Replacing the 'Photon Shield' ability, Symmetra's new 'Photon Barrier' choice will fire a slowly advancing bullet-proof wall similar to the shields offered by Winston and Reinhardt. Blizzard suggest using it as a way to signal allies to push forward much like Reinhardt passively encourages on more narrow maps. She'll also be able to stock up 6 turrets and fire her primary weapon from a further distance, turning her into a slightly more aggressive version of the game's other Support characters.
There's no telling how long Symmetra's changes will take to arrive on the official game servers, but anyone willing to give things a try can log into the Public Test Realm for now.
