Video games never seem to adapt into movies very well, in fact we don’t think there’s actually been a good video game movie? According to early reviews the recent World of Warcraft movie is rubbish, Doom was awful, and Street Fighter…. Resident Evil probably gave it the best shot out of all of them to be honest, but perhaps Assassin’s Creed will be proclaimed King when it launches in December? It’s difficult to say if a TV adaptation would fare any better, although it seems there’s plans for a Mirror’s Edge one.
Endemol Shine Studios are said to have picked up the rights for a television show based on a female-centered action series for Mirror’s Edge. The TV show will probably share a similar plot to the video game, which is set in a quasi-futuristic dystopian society where “runners” deliver messages while avoiding the surveillance of government agencies. The game’s main character and heroine is called Faith, who is drawn into the fight against the ruling Conglomerate after her sister is framed for murder.
“We clearly see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience,” said Sharon Hall, President of Endemol Shine Studios. “It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is the latest game in the series, which will be released very soon on the 7th June for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The TV series is in the very early stages at the moment, so it’ll be some time before we see it.
What do you think? Will Mirror’s Edge transform into a good TV series?
