I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’ve never owned a PC that could run the original Watch Dogs in anything above Low settings. Well, I probably do now, but I can’t be bothered to check. That game was pretty dull, too serious, and most importantly was an atrocious console port that wasn’t optimized at all for any system. It ties with Assassin’s Creed Unity as the worst PC release from Ubisoft.
Well, now Watch Dogs 2 is finally out on PC, just two weeks after the console versions. Oh Ubisoft, you spoil us. Still, we don’t mind a little wait as long as the port is up to snuff. Let’s have a look shall we?

TEST SYSTEM:
- OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
- Processor: AMD-FX 6300 Six-Core Processor
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 4Gb
After the nightmare that was the first game, I’m pleased to say that not only does Watch Dogs 2 have a wide range of graphics settings, including a handy bar for how much video card memory is being impacted, but it runs well on the majority of settings. From Low to Very High I had at the very least a stable 30 FPS, with performance only dropping a little in certain scenes on Ultra settings.
I additionally found if I dropped Shadows a little I could play with most of the Ultra settings still turned on with very little performance impact, so that’s what I’ll be doing in my review run-through.
Overall, at least performance-wise, I’m impressed. Thank you Ubisoft, you’ve finally done the right thing by PC gamers.
But don’t just take my word for it - anyone playing Watch Dogs 2 already? How is it running for you?
