The people wished for years and years to see Shenmue return to our screens, and while many likely gave up hope, maybe their dreams are set to become reality. Sega has registered a bunch of domain names relating to an HD re-release of the classic franchise.
Through a post made over at TSSZ, we're now aware that Sega recently acquired three very specific domain names with one misspelled purposely to avoid any potential marketing blunders caused by someone owning - and maybe promoting - Shemnue as their own.
ShenmueHD.com, ShenmueRemastered and the aforementioned ShemnueGame.com is are all a little too specific to ignore. Sega has mentioned looking into the possibility to re-introducing the titles at some point, and with Shenmue 3 still planned for an eventual release, it would make sense to have the originals more easily available to those who either didn't play them back in the Dreamcast/Xbox era or would just like to see them spruced up for the modern age.
Feel like pre-ordering a game way too early? Shenmue III is up for it.
Even if the domains lead to the eventual reveal of a Shenmue remastered collection, it could very well be something only made available through purchasing the upcoming sequel - much like Activision did with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Hopefully that isn't the case, but we can never be too sure.
Sega are usually quite good when it comes to re-releasing their older titles. But with them owning domains like SonicShuffleHD, SpaceChannel5HD and, more painfully, JetSetRadioHD.com, it could very well just be for protection of their IP.
