Funcom’s Early access sandbox survival game Conan Exiles hit the scene with a bang and on its first day by becoming the number 2 most watched game on Twitch. Funcom today announced that the game has sold over 320,000 copies in its first week, which is a feat worthy of Conan himself. These figures alone mean that Funcom, who have had some tough times recently, have completely recouped the development costs already.
“We are deeply humbled and very grateful for the initial success of Conan Exiles,” says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “Funcom has gone through some challenging times in recent years and seeing the game we have poured so much time and effort into gain this amount of traction so quickly is very invigorating for everyone who works here. This is just the start of the Early Access adventure and we will do whatever it takes to make sure Conan Exiles turns into a fully-fledged game that has something to offer new and old fans of both Conan and survival games.”
Following the unforeseen popularity, the developers have also now released the developers kit to allow modders to dive into the game to create content for the Steam Workshop. Even though the game is still facing several issues including a lack of official servers as the old provider Pingperfect was dropped as they were unable to provide a high-quality service to cope with demand, the game seems to be going strong among players.
Speaking about the Mod kit the developers said “We are also excited to let you know that we have now released the Conan Exiles Dev Kit allowing creators everywhere to develop modifications for the game. Anyone can now create and upload ‘mods’ to the Conan Exiles Steam Workshop, whether it’s small changes and quality of life improvements, or total conversion mods introducing new creatures, characters, and worlds. To get started, head over to UnrealEngine.com and download the Unreal launcher to access the dev kit.”
