UPDATE: With the Year of the Rooster Event on the horizon, a leaked trailer from the Spanish version has given us confirmed details of what to expect when the update patch lands a little later on.
While a good amount of characters will be receiving new skins, there’s a couple missing. Tracer, Junkrat, Symmetra, Bastion and Mercy get Epic additions whereas Mei, D.Va, Roadhog Reinhardt, Zenyatta and Winston gain Legendary status. Making note that most events come with 12 skins, speculation is afoot with fans trying to work out who’ll get the last one - if at all.
Good old Capture The Flag makes a rare appearance as the featured mode this time around. The event kicks off today with players once again racing for loot boxes until February 13. Ending on Valentine’s Day is sure to break a few hearts; but that’s the fun of it.

We seemingly can't go a day without more Overwatch news. Consistently staying in the spotlight, it's less about 'Play of the Game' these days and more about putting out controversial skins, holiday loot boxes and changing the otherworldly properties of a hook handled by a certain big-bellied hog.
Today, we're looking at a large mix of those aspects. You might remember how fans spoke up unhappy with the Holiday skin offered for Mei last month while the other characters received some slightly more inspired holiday garbs. They weren't happy. Blizzard felt the disturbance. The apologised for missing the mark and promised she'd get something good the next time. That time is now, and they were right; it's good.
If Blizzard is still sticking to their plans to dodge events like Easter and Valentine's Day, that doesn't mean they're dodging every minor holiday of the year. Instead of going for the Western main-stream, they're doing Chinese New Year. So while that obviously means everything for Mei, D.VA is playing a part, too.
Overwatch's 'Oasis' Map Is Now Live And Players Are Already Wondering What's Next
Other than that, we don't really know what's going to happen for this event. Starting January 24, we can guess that it won't be all too different from past events. Potentially swapping out Loot Boxes for the iconic Red Envelope of the New Year's celebrations of the Far East, it's a push at best, but a detail worthy of Blizzard's attention.
Past that? Expect the usual host of new voice lines (like the one that's causing a stir within Mercy's fanclub), re-skinned maps (likely Hanamura and Lijiang Tower) and a new game mode that we can imagine will focus on D.VA after Mei's snowball variant over the Holiday period. It's only fair, right? Especially after threatening to take away her buffs just as quickly as she received them. Poor girl.
Hopefully we'll find out more a little closer to the map rush of patch day. For now, get ready to farm.
