Revealed during The Game Awards show toward the end of last year, we were given our first glimpse of 'Dauntless' - a F2P Action-RPG heavily inspired by Capcom's own Monster Hunter series. Attempting to make a bigger splash with the idea, a team of ex-Bioware veterans will bring the genre to the PC when Capcom won't.
Having their chance to get some hands-on time with the title, PC Gamer and Polygon both managed to capture some footage of a game we haven't heard from since the start of last month. Supposedly close to a point where the developers could start bringing players in for a Closed Beta test, there's now two worthwhile pieces of footage showing us two very different monster battles in action.
Much like Monster Hunter, Dauntless puts a team of 4 brawlers against some very big fantasy beasts. Striking nothing but a foot for 30 minutes isn't unheard of when it comes to these kinds of games, but we're seeing things a little on the smaller side with Shrike - an own-like creature similar to the newly added Malfestio in Capcom's legendary series.

Further up the scale, we're introduced to the Pangar - a large lizard coated in ice that's a big fan of rolling over its opposition. Players go into battle with their weapon of choice and hack away at the monsters that could squish them in a heartbeat. The joy on these games typically come from going into each battle with a better understanding of the monster's behavior. It's attacks are random, but the tell-tale signs of what's to come are always there - even if it happens within a split second. Demonstrating the same in their own version, there's every hope that Dauntless will manage to put its own spin on that magic.
Dauntless is aiming for a full release on PC later this year, but there's a Closed Alpha to start first, with a beta soon after. The game will be Free-to-Play but will use a monetization system similar to League of Legends - somehow.
