As the Pillars of Eternity series has shown us, Eora harbors plenty of dangerous figures, creatures, and locations, so having a helping hand to rely on (or argue about crucial story choices) could help elevate the experience.
Avowed Multiplayer Mode
Unfortunately, Avowed will not launch with a multiplayer or co-op mode, as indicated by its Steam page, which only lists single-player among the available options.

This, of course, means that we will not be able to have friends joining our campaigns, relying instead solely on AI-controlled companions for aid.
Although this is not entirely unexpected for Obsidian Entertainment RPGs, at some point in development, the team was working on a multiplayer mode for Avowed.
“One of the things where I really pushed was that Avowed was going to be multiplayer and I kept on that for a long time. […] I know in the end it was the wrong decision to keep on pushing on it,” Studio Head and Founder Feargus Urquhart explains in the studio’s 20th anniversary documentary.
“Now why I had done it, was when we were still independent and we were selling it, it was a more interesting game to publishers.”
The developer’s focus on including a co-op mode for Avowed ended up interfering too much with the way Obsidian usually develops games, not allowing the team to focus on its core strengths.
That is mainly why Avowed will not launch with a multiplayer or co-op mode.
Whether or not it ends up added later remains to be seen, although going by what we know so far, we’d say that chances for that happening are rather slim.
That covers what we know about Avowed’s multiplayer/co-op mode. The RPG is set to release on February 18, 2025.
