Hogwarts Legacy provides a complete immersive experience of studying at the renowned school of witchcraft and wizardry, including taking the sorting hat quiz at the beginning of the year’s ceremony. This significant moment determines which of the four Hogwarts houses - Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff - you will be sorted into, as avid fans of the universe are aware.
Prior to delving into the possible impacts on gameplay, your Hogwarts Legacy house selection could significantly impact the persona of your character. Therefore, this article will enlighten you on the mechanics of the sorting hat quiz and whether you have any control over which of the four houses you join.
Hogwarts Legacy Sorting Hat Quiz
The Hogwarts Legacy Sorting Hat quiz is part of the title’s fairly lengthy introductory sequence. Running for about an hour, it sets up the game’s story rather nicely but doesn’t allow you to manually save until after the point at which your character is sorted into one of the four houses.
Once you finally arrive at Hogwarts and find yourself with the sentient hat sitting comfortably on top of your head, you’ll have to answer precisely two questions. The fairly speedy take on the whole ceremony starts with the hat remarking that you’ve arrived at the school with a set of expectations, giving you a choice between two answers:
- "I can't wait to start classes."
</li>"I can't wait to explore."</li>
From what we can tell, your choice here doesn’t in any way influence the house suggested by the Sorting Hat. Next, the headwear will say that it detects “something” in your character before asking you what that something is.
This is the only choice that influences the house suggestion during Hogwarts Legacy’s Sorting Hat puzzle. You can pick one of four traits as answers, each one prompting the hat to say that you might belong to its associated house.
- Daring - Gryffindor
- Curiosity - Ravenclaw
- Loyalty - Hufflepuff
- Ambition - Slytherin
Regardless of whether or not the Sorting Hat ends up suggesting your preferred choice from the four houses, the very next step in the process gives you the opportunity to either go with its pick or select a different house.
This basically means that Hogwarts Legacy’s Sorting Hat puzzle lets you pick your preferred house, which is great news if you’re adamant about playing as a Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff student.
The same applies to linking your Warner Bros. account to the Harry Potter fan club. If you do so, you won’t be asked to pick between the four traits, but can still choose your house afterwards.
One thing worth noting is that whatever your choice may be, there doesn’t seem to be a way to walk it back after this point without starting the game all over again.
What Does Being Sorted into Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff Influence in Hogwarts Legacy?
The importance of the Sorting Hat puzzle might make you think that the house you’ve chosen has a sweeping influence on how Hogwarts Legacy plays, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
From what we can tell, the main things that it influences are the common room to which you’re assigned alongside the colors and insignias that appear on the clothing you wear (red for Gryffindor, green for Slytherin, blue for Ravenclaw, and yellow for Hufflepuff).
Hogwarts Legacy is a fairly large game, so it’s possible that each house has certain subtleties that might reveal themselves later on. But, broadly speaking, the story it tells and how it plays shouldn’t change based on your choice here.
