How does Codex Management work in Wartales? First unlocked after building a Lectern, Codex Management in Wartales is a system that allows you to unlock secret locations in each region by deciphering books. When it comes to getting the hang of this system, it can be complicated and confusing.
The game does a great job of forcing you to use your logical skills, but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to figure out. In addition, while this isn’t something you need to rush into upon starting the game, knowing how it works is pretty nice since you’ll be able to obtain various rewards from the secret locations.
Wartales Codex Management Explained
The Codex Management system is based on runes. If you have assigned a Scholar to your Lectern, you should be able to see the Codex Management option at the bottom. Click on that, and you’ll see all the Codexes you have.
The way Codex Management works is similar to a mini-puzzle, which requires you to find three runes that match each Codex. To do this, you’ll need to guess which three runes are needed for each book.
When playing the puzzle, you will be presented with eight or nine runes for each book. The game will let you know how many runes you get correct but will not specifically inform you which ones. So, naturally, you’ll need to use a process of elimination and try to guess the odd one out.
There’s no limitation on how many times you can guess and there’s also no correct order to pick them, so you can take your time and figure out the three matching runes. If you manage to find the three correct runes, you will notice a symbol. Otherwise, keep trying until you find the corresponding ones.
It’s mainly trial and error, but just be patient and note which runes you get correct. Although this might sound a bit complicated, especially to those unfamiliar with this type of puzzle, it’s still worth a try. To honor your efforts, the game will reward you with some cool-looking backpack and belt accessories obtainable from hidden locations in the game.
