The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of magic and mystery, secret passageways and the struggles to find them.
In this guide we’ll explain how to find and access the necromancer Ilyn Toth’s Lair through the Ornate Mirror. Completing this area grants access to the Necromancy of Thay, which is well worth picking up on your travels, especially if you happen to be a magic user.
How to Get Past the Ornate Mirror in BG3
The Ornate Mirror is found beneath the Blighted Village. To enter, head to the building located at X:32 Y:380 (just south of the waypoint) and mouse around until you find the partially concealed door on the floor behind the counter.
Once within, you’ll find yourself in a laboratory with some minor loot but not much else. However, there is a hidden lever behind some crates on one wall. Either move or destroy these crates and pull the lever to reveal a secret tunnel.
Proceed through the following area as you normally would and eventually, you will find the Ornate Mirror. This mirror is sentient in its own way and will challenge you to prove that you belong there. A failure here will trigger a guardian spell that causes large amounts of damage to your party so be careful to choose wisely.
Introduce yourself to the mirror as an ally of Ilyn Toth and choose the following dialogue options.
- Szass Tam is a foul, wretched creature.
- To clean a wound?
- I’d look for whatever spell will rid me of this worm in my head.
If done correctly, the mirror will grant you access to the final room of this area, allowing you to grab the Necromancy of Thay before leaving.
If you’re looking to get inside without answering the questions for roleplay reasons, the mirror will also respond to threats through the [Intimidation] option available.
