In a world filled with zombies, would you rather stay in a house made of wood or metal? If your answer is the latter, then you’ll want to learn about Project Zomboid’s metalworking craft. Metalworking is a skill that allows your character to craft metal structures, repair cars, barricade windows and doors with metal, and disassemble metallic objects.
Although the game also offers the ability to level up your carpentry skill, there’s only so much damage that your wooden plank can withstand, especially if you’re met with the dreadful helicopter event. So, if you want a base with defenses you can genuinely rely on, here’s everything you need to know about metalworking in Project Zomboid.
Project Zomboid Metalworking Requirements
For starters, you will need a handful of equipment to do metalworking in Project Zomboid. These items can generally be found in buildings and cars, and they are as follows:
- Propane Torch and Welding Mask: these are used for basic construction or disassembling materials. However, the Welding Mask can also serve as face armor when you wear it.
- Welding Rods: used for construction.
- Propane Tank: used to refill propane torches with fuel.
Once you have all these items in your hands, we can go over how you can start leveling up your metalworking skill in Project Zomboid.
How to Level Up Metalworking Fast in Project Zomboid
Similar to carpentry, leveling up metalworking in Project Zomboid requires you to craft and disassemble items. Other than that, it’s also vital to read metalworking books, especially if you want to maximize your XP gain and start building metal objects. Doing this will also allow you to unlock more blueprints, so make sure to pick some metalworking books whenever you can during your journey.
With the basic required items mentioned earlier, your character can disassemble a wide range of objects to get metallic materials, such as toilets, sinks, showers, ovens, refrigerators, metal shelves, dumpsters, car wrecks, etc.
Out of all these options, the fastest and easiest way to get metalworking XP is by heading to any public toilet and disassembling the male and female toilets. Houses are your safe bet since houses usually have a toilet and kitchen where you can find refrigerators, ovens, and other electronics.
After disassembling items for a while, you’ll eventually gain more XP and level up, allowing you to obtain better materials. At the early levels, you can build metal bars and metal sheets to secure your doors and windows. However, as you progress through this skill, you can build more advanced and solid structures, such as metal walls, metal crates, pole gates, wired fences, and more, making this a worthy skill to learn.
