The legendary Shenmue has finally broken free of the Dreamcast, giving a new generation the chance to experience its compelling story. At release, the game was lauded for its detailed world: Objects could be picked up and inspected, jukeboxes could be turned on, and arcade games weren't static props- but fully interactive mini games.
Shenmue's port to modern systems retains all the greatness of the original, albeit at higher resolutions. An obviously returning feature is the game's 'Easter Eggs', a reward for dedicated players who know where to look. If you're someone who needs to see it all, here's a quick rundown on a secret that can easily be missed at the start of the game: The Dojo Flashback Sequence.
After watching the intro cinematic, head straight towards the dojo to meet with Fuku-San: The live-in student at the Hazuki Residence. He's survived his encounter with Lan Di, and implores you not to give chase. Following this conversation, take a look around the dojo. There's a piece of parchment hanging on one of the walls, simply zoom in and you'll be prompted to interact with it. Doing so will trigger the cutscene, and will reward you with the Treasure Your Friends achievement.
Shenmue I and II are now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you've never been exposed to the series, check out our review and stay tuned for more Shenmue coverage in the future. Happy Hunting!
