Si: Hi, please tell us you position within Battle Mages developing team.
Stanislav Scorb: Hello, my name is Stanislav Scorb. I am product manager of Targem Company. I am also Battle Mages’ lead game designer.
Si: Please give us a brief over-view of the games concepts and storyline.
Stanislav Scorb: Our game’s main feature is the unusual combination of RPG and RTS genres. Nobody ever realized the presence of player in the battlefield, the way it is made in our game. The action takes place in the imagined world of Daenmor. The world is protected from the invasion of chaos by the Great Crystal. Our game is filled with magic. The player is a mage, who accidentally found himself in the very center of crucial events and defends the Crystal and native land from complete destruction.
Si: What makes Battle Mage's stand out from other RTS games on the market?
Stanislav Scorb: First, it is the presence of the player on the battlefield. Second, I think, is very detailed (for RTS) graphic. Player commands several troops, each consisting of 5-6 units – high-polygon models with a large number of animations. Surrounding world is also very beautiful, landscapes, rivers it is all very detailed. And finally, the magic is what makes our game what it is. The player can learn up to 50 spells, mage-units cast a number of spells, each having its own nice effect.
Si: Battle Mage's is advertised as an RTS/RPG hybrid game, could you explain this in more detail? What kind of mix have you prepared?
Stanislav Scorb: Unlike most strategies, where the player commands a bunch of featureless units, in our game several troops follow the player through game from one mission to another, gain experience, become more powerful. At a certain level, the troops can be upgraded, which substantially raise their characteristics. Besides, there are tons of artifacts, shields, swords, magic things that can greatly reinforce warriors. Player does not have to build anything, no bases; he only travels, exploring the world. However, there are towns in game that develop and live by themselves (send peasants to get resources, fight enemies), and the player can help or hinder them. The player also gains experience and develops his four basic skills, learns new spells and acquires special abilities – perks.
Si: Will Battle Mage's include a multiplayer mode?
Stanislav Scorb: Yes there is a multiplayer game in Battle Mages. There are 2, 3 and 4-player maps. The multiplayer is really uncommon and it stands out against a background of other games. You have the same features as in the single player mode, plus you can fight directly against other player’s mages, which is very fun.
Si: How many different factions/races will there be in the game?
Stanislav Scorb: There are 5 races in game: Humans – experts on magic, militant Orcs, long-living Elves, cunning Goblins – masters of machinery and Undead – Dark Lord’s army.
Si: Will any of these races be selectable in the main single player game or in multiplayer?
Stanislav Scorb: The player himself is a human, but during the game he visits different lands and has an opportunity to command Humans, Orcs, Goblins and Elves.
Si: Is there any resource management of any type in Battle Mage's or is the game more focused on the story and combat?
Stanislav Scorb: There is no management; you do not have to build anything. The player travels, explores the world, fight enemies. Moreover, separate units are combined into troops, which allows player to easily command his warriors and spend more time on the plot and using magic.
Si: Will there be a population/army limit in the game? If so could you tell us what that would be?
Stanislav Scorb: Leadership (number or troops under his command) is one of the player’s basic characteristics. He can develop this skill to control more and troops (up to 20).
Si: Any idea on a release date?
Stanislav Scorb: Right now, practically. It is already in stocks in some places.
Si: Are there any plans to release an expansion pack or sequel to Battle Mage's at this time?
Stanislav Scorb: Yes, we would like to work on sequel, but first we shall see how the gaming community will treat our game. I hope they will like it.
Si: What is your favorite part about Battle Mage's?
Stanislav Scorb: Personally, I like the game as a whole. Separate parts are not that interesting… But the landscapes are great!
Si: Thank you for your time in answering our questions at Strategy Informer, is there anything else you would like to add?
