The new shiny visuals to EVE Online are still being tinkered with but have reached the half way milestone, ”you could say,” says CCP’s Halldor Fannar.
The Trinity update concentrated on ships, stations and gates but now the rest of EVE space is going under the knife. It should help shift the burden on CPU’s to GPU’s too.
”EVE in a a state where, if you run the Premium graphics edition, half of it is done, you could say,” said Fannar at the EVE Online Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland.
”The particle system really shows its age now if you’re flying a Premium ship,” he admits. ”The effects are like from another era.”
In the expansion after next there will be ”a big step” that will let the CCP team move much faster on continuing to improve graphics for players. Ultimately the plan is to get the premium version of EVE Online to scale better on lower end PCs.
