In an interview between EGM and Sam Houser a founder of Rockstar Games he said that a GTA styled MMO wasn’t beyond reach.
Of course I’m sure many would like to spin these comments through the rumour mill as fact that R* are working on a MMO but these are just the creative rants of a games legend. Nothing to see here, move along.

Under EGM inquisition about such an online creation Houser said the idea ”is very, very doable and is a very, very compelling proposition.” He also added that a subscription based MMO on a console would be ”the Holy Grail.”
The trouble would be translating the gameplay into a persistent online world without it simply falling to anarchy as players just go around blowing one another apart. From the outlook at the moment, the Houser’s and Rockstar have no plans for such a feat but who knows what the studio has in mind after GTAIV?
