The Competition Commission has confirmed that Game’s acquisition of Gamestation is almost set and that the market shouldn’t expect to see any substantial lessening of competition for the supply of gaming software, consoles and related accessories in the UK.
Game said: ”The board of The GAME Group is pleased to note that the Competition Commission, in its final report published today, has unconditionally cleared the completed acquisition of Gamestation,”
But it wasn’t an easy business deal, as MCV reports: “Two members of the Group disagreed with the conclusion in relation to the trade-in and sale of pre-owned gaming software.”
“As this meant a split 2:2 verdict, the Chairman has exercised her casting vote in favour of a final clearance.”
This brings Game’s UK and Ireland group retail stores to 650 outlets, adding an extra 235 stores. They also plan to keep the Gamestation brand, which we are extremely pleased about as we rather enjoy the newly opened Gamestation in Exeter.
