Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto has said he hopes fans won’t think of the decision to go multiplatform as some traitorous move or even as a ”disappointment.”
He says they’re not ”cancelling or delaying the PS3 version”, it’s an ”added bonus for 360 fans.” He revealed the PS3 is the focus right now, then they’ll move onto the 360 port.
”I’d rather they not think of this as a “betrayal” or disappointment,” commented Hashimoto, in an interview with Kikizo. ”It’s not like we’re cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all! It’s more of an added bonus for 360 fans. We won’t be putting them at a disadvantage in any way.”
A major point of contention for PS3 fans is that the versions will suffer due to the lower disc capacity for the Xbox 360 compared with PS3’s Blu-ray. An issue many believe prevent Konami from porting over Metal Gear Solid 4 decently, should they ever decide to.
”I think that maybe because it’s going multiplatform that some fans are worried about the game’s scope being reduced to fit onto both consoles,” he said. ”The fact is, the PS3 version is what’s in development right now, and the team is working to specialize that version to the very best of the PS3’s abilities.”
”After that, we’ll do the 360 port and optimize it to that particular hardware. There will be no decrease in quality as a result of the game appearing across two platforms.”
”Blu-Ray’s additional storage capacity doesn’t matter as much as the strength of the hardware itself,” added Hashimoto.
Will this be reassurance enough to quell the rebellion among fans? For some probably, but the ‘hardcore elite’ will selectively overlook the rational statements for the sensational ones.
