Microsoft’s latest revision of chip, the “Jasper”, has made its way into new models of the Xbox 360 console and into retailers, but so what?
Well according to reports the new models are quieter, consume a little less juice and are hopefully a further step in banishing RROD. How does one spot a “Jasper” model though?
A surefire way to tell is to look at the powerbrick that comes with the unit, and while it looks exactley like the others is does in fact consume only 150 Watts and not 175. This method of course involves deflowering an Xbox 360 box, something retailers will likely resist.
There’s no other definitive method you can adopt just yet but according to sources the first “Jasper” units have lot numbers beginning with 0843, reports Xboxist. The logic then is if you have one equal to or greater than that you stand a strong chance in owning the new chipset.
Long live “Jasper”! …providing it does its job.
