It’s not exactly the news that PlayStation 3 owners want to hear but Sony has at least taken a significant step forward with Netflix, possibly paving the way?
Analyst Tony Wible seems to think so. The current deal is to begin Netflix movie streams this Fall on Sony’s Internet-connected Bravia HD sets. Netflix on PS3 a ”strategic positive”.
Janney Montgomery Scott’s analyst Wible said the Bravia-Netflix marriage could ”soon pave the way for (Netflix) to make an appearance on the (PlayStation 3), which we note has blocked access to Hulu as of a couple weeks ago.”
Hulu is a free online video service but is currently a ”U.S. service only.” For the time bring Netflix remains an exclusive movie stream service to Xbox 360, to which Microsoft undoubtedly enjoys.
”While a PS3 deal would be strategic positive for Netflix, we believe investors are anticipating the news and it remains uncertain that a deal will ultimately improve Netflix ‘s financial outlook,” added Wible in his investor note. Want some Netflix in your PS3?
