Game Informer’s preview of Ubisoft Montreal’s sequel to Assassin’s Creed shows very promising advancements are heading our way.
It takes place in 15th-century Italy where players assume the role of ex-noble Ezio, another descendant of the captured Desmond. There’s swimming, notoriety and collectibles with benefits!
The major complaint for the first game was the repetitive nature of handling assassinations, it was a wash, rinse and repeat affair for all the targets. Dealing with contacts around the three cities was also a bore with only minor alterations between their assigned objectives.
Ubi plan to wash away all that though, as they have taken the criticisms on board and hacked away the cookie cutter templates of the first game. There are to be 16 unique side missions in Assassin’s Creed 2, with a greater network of informants working through the cities to help Ezio find his prey.
Our new assassin is much improved from Altair, Ezio can swim for one thing and can also see optimal routes to take via white cloth markers. There’ll be unarmed combat with a chance to disarm enemies and then use their own weapons against them. Ezio can also hide among normal civvies instead of waiting for monk or scholar types to show up.
You’ll even get to rub shoulders with some of history’s greatest minds, with da Vinci acting as Ezio’s own Q from James Bond so to speak. Nothing has been revealed about the fate of Desmond who was captured by the Templar, could he get to do more than walk, talk and sleep this time around?
