The Steam Hardware Survey isn’t just for evil marketing purposes, it also lets Valve know what machines they need to produce their games for.
They decided to let fans get a peak at what hardware they’re packing in the office, and the new rig setups the devs are ”currently transitioning to”. Move aside Quad-Core, here comes I7.
”The survey helps us make better engineering and gameplay decisions, because it makes sure we’re targeting machines our customers actually use, rather than measuring only against the hardware we’ve got in the office,” posted Valve, talking about the Steam Hardware Survey.
”We often get asked about the configuration of the machines we build around the office to do both game and Steam development. We also tend to turn over machines in the office pretty rapidly, at roughly every 18 months.”

Envious, or does Valve deserve your pity with such ‘lacking’ hardware?
