Microsoft has dropped imposed limitations for game titles and content on Xbox Live Arcade, which means files can now reach 2GB in size; technical limitations prevent higher.
Games on Demand is a different section to XBLA and so doesn’t use the same file structure, so limitations don’t exist for it reveals Microsoft’s digital games director Scott Austin.
Previous caps included 50MB and 150MB imposed by Microsoft, even though releases like Portal (1GB) and Shadow Complex (1GB) breached them with the corporate giants blessing. Now only the infrastructure of XBLA is holding it back, reports IGN.
This is good news for developers who want to include top notch assets in their digital releases, providing of course they don’t go over 2GB… An overhaul of XBLA looks to be in the future.
