Stormrise is Creative Assembly’s upcoming RTS for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and they are launching on all platforms simultaneously.
Vispi Bhopti of Creative’s Australian division has said it’s ”pointless” to delay the PC launch, that piracy is the ”nature of the beast.” Those who want to pirate are ”going to pirate” games.
Speaking with VideoGamer.com, communications manager Bhopti said that Creative won’t be following Ubisoft’s tactic in which they delayed the PC launch of EndWar to combat illegal sharing.
”That’s not that much of an issue. There’s no additional thing that we’re going for with that sort of stuff. That’s pointless. If people are going to pirate a game they’re going to pirate a game. All you can do is delay the piracy, really,” notes Bhopti.
”But that’s just the nature of the beast. We are a PC developer, that’s where we started, so you do what you gotta do. We’ve got Games for Windows Live activation, so it’s pretty solid.”
The PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA) has warned that publishers should do more themselves in securing their production lines and stop ”some guy” from a duplication house from just pinching a copy with ease.
”If your product is not protected all of the way through production, you’re going to be faced with the scenario where some guy sitting at the duplicator house, this is where all the piracy starts, back doors the code to a buddy or flat out sells it to make money off a torrent rip of the game,” said PCGA President Randy Stude last October. ”That’s where the problem is.”
Stormrise is being released on Xbox, PS3 and PC this March.
