The recently revealed Axel & Pixel has been confirmed by publisher Take-Two, an indie from Silver Wish Games. Also, P.B. Winterbottom, a ”comical silent film world” about pie.
Peggle Nights is arriving too, and adds ”exclusive multiplayer” features to the original. It’s been ”tuned specifically” for XBLA, and includes at least 60 new levels.
”The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and Axel & Pixel are passion projects for us,” said 2K’s Christoph Hartmann, reports Shacknews.
”We saw the potential and the talent in these two unique and bold concepts, and are thrilled to be able to provide these developers with the support to create compelling games without altering their distinct visions.” You may remember that the ESRB was the one to blow the surprise of Axel & Pixel, leading some to believe the Mafia II team was behind it.
That was cleared up though, and 2K revealed it’s in fact the machinations of Czech-based Silver Wish Games. The only description for the game is from the ESRB summary: ”This is a “point-and-click” adventure game in which players guide an artist and his dog through surreal and abstract environments. Players must solve environmental puzzles that include redirecting a ray of light, throwing rocks at birds, and spraying water at a creature.”
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom meanwhile has a website, and offers a more detailed tease of what’s to come. ”Enter a macabre and comical silent film world filled with mischief, time travel, and delicious pie. Record yourself and harness your time bending abilities to cooperate, compete against, and disrupt your past, present, and future selves.”
”Winterbottom’s debut misadventures present whimsical spin on the notions of time, space, and play,” it continued.
”Mr. P.B. Winterbottom is a villainous gentleman with a predilection for pies. Swiping the mysterious Cherry Chronoberry pie changed everything for our beloved Winterbottom… one bite made him more than an ordinary pie-grabbing humbug. That first taste changed him into something quite extraordinary, granting him the ability to break the rules of time.”
”With these newfound time recording tricks up his cufflink, and with the help of his time clones, Winterbottom can now snatch pies with the greatest of ease. But on his journey to devour every pie, Winterbottom must mind the signs… the perils of being unstuck in time.”
Indie games indeed. Peggle Nights meanwhile is an expansion to the original Peggle game already available on XBLA. ”Tuned specifically for the XBLA player, Peggle Nights is an expansion for the original Peggle (XBLA) and includes all the levels and challenges from the PC and Mac versions of Peggle Nights – along with the ability to play all the new Nights content in the exclusive multiplayer modes found only on XBLA.”
More specifically you get:
◊ 60 new Peggle Nights levels for multiplayer over Xbox LIVE and all single player/local modes
◊ Peggle Nights Adventure mode (60 levels), including the Nights story
◊ 60 new Peggle Nights Challenges
◊ A new Peggle Master, Marina
◊ Peggle Nights trophy room
◊ Peggle Nights adventure statistics
◊ New style shots from Peggle Nights PC (available as title upgrade for all Peggle XBLA players)
◊ Three new Xbox 360 achievements worth a total of 50 gamerscore, bringing Peggle up to a total of 250 gamerscore.
There you go. That’s two upcoming indie titles involving a dog, an artist and a pie eating time traveller from the silent movie era. Plus you’ll be able to get you Peggle Night fix when it launches this fall. No release date for the Take-Two titles, but they will be playable at PAX.
