Sony have exposed figures for this year’s quarter one hardware sales, and they aren’t so fit and well compared with last year’s same period, neither are software sales.
In the glory that was 2008, Sony peddled 1.6m PS3s, 3.6m PSPs and 1.5m PS2s - fast forward to 2009 and they’ve shifted 1.1m PS3s, 1.3m PSPs and… drum roll 1.6m PS2s!
Yes, thanks to a price cut on the PlayStation 2 console it has sold an extra hundred thousand units this year compared with 08. I’m sure some people might throw up words like ‘price cut’ and ‘PS3’ at this point… Sony is down YEN 39.7 billion, about USD 414 million.
