New to the series are ”upgradeable weapons”, rewarding with both power and abilities. It’s go 2-player co-op both local and online. Weapon wheel returns.
Creative director Marcus Smith was totalling running his mouth (via text) about what’s happening with Resistance 3. So far only live-action trailers have really been coming out of Sony but actual in-game footage has started trickling out.
”New to Resistance 3 are upgradeable weapons, which will give your weapons new abilities and power as you continue to use them. In terms of co-op, we are focusing on a 2-player co-op through the single-player campaign, which can be played online with a friend, or split-screen on your couch,” he revealed.
”In terms of multiplayer, we are planning a much more focused, progression-based multiplayer experience. We’ll have many more details on the new campaign, enemies, multiplayer and weapons in the weeks to come as we head towards our Autumn 2011 release.” Insomniac has released some of their favourite shots of R3.
”The multiplayer locations in the game are set around the world, with many in locations not in the single-player game,” he continued. ”During the single-player campaign, you’ll hear updates about the battle happening there,” referring to online matches.
Smith also gave the back story away for Resistance 3 - avoid for spoilers.
We play as Sentinel Joseph Capelli four years after the end of Resistance 2, and he’s living in hiding with his wife and son, Susan and Jack, in the town of Haven, Oklahoma with other survivors. However an opportunity comes knocking he can’t pass up.
”He’s given up fighting, and is now just trying to hide and survive the Chimeran death squads that roam the planet. But when Dr. Malikov arrives with an opportunity to deliver a blow to the Chimera, Capelli embarks on a road trip to New York City.”
”Resistance 3 is a tale of Capelli’s heroic journey across the country as he encounters the remnants of humanity left in the aftermath of the brutal invasion,” said Smith. The Spike Video Game Awards are this Saturday, December 11th. Don’t miss out.
