This is the second time we journos have fallen foul of Bleszinski, after he was merely joking that Heavy Rain’s child were ‘ugly’. We ”intentionally” do this?
Yes we videogame journos are borderline scum of the Earth now - oh sorry, was that a misquote, or twisting someone’s twittering? The Gears of War man was alleged to have said that Japanese tech can’t keep up with the US - but he didn’t, he says.
”Internet tabloid alert: I said nothing about Japan not being able to keep up with the US regarding tech. #fabrication”, twittered Bleszinski. He later added: ”There are plenty of existing and upcoming Japanese titles that look amazing. I have nothing but the utmost respect for those devs.”
Now comes the stinging barb to hurt our press feelings - viewer discretion advised.
”If this “journalism” continues devs will only be able to recite fact sheets verbatim,” posted the Epic boss. ”Websites intentionally publish misquotes and out of context pullquotes to create forum flamewars which generates traffic and profit.”
”Here’s another technique: you can say anything as long as you put a ? after it. ;)” No misquotes this time around - unless CliffyB informs us we’ve been at it again.
Yes it’s true that sometimes we videogame press types, leeching off media shy studio developers, have on occasion typed out a headline that sounds too sexy to be true…
…however if we didn’t then chances are no one will care the PS3 install base is up 2m, or the next Unreal Engine 3 has some extra teraflop power, or that Ice-T wants in on the Gears of War 3 action. Then again I’m of the tabloid press - what do I really know?
