About 1k will be in zones giving players a boost from level 80 to 85, while the rest occupy the revamped ”old world”. Paths of the Titans is scrapped.
”Wrath of the Lich King shipped with about 1000 quests, a little over,” said lead world designer Alex Afrasiabi, speaking with Eurogamer. ”Cataclysm will ship with - we’re tracking to ship with over 3000 new quests.”
The announced ‘Paths of the Titans’ high-level customisation system that Blizzard unveiled at last year’s BlizzCon has been dropped, as the studio feared it made things too complicated. The new profession Archaeology, which tied-in with it, will remain.
Archaeologists will instead hunt for items for more casual rewards like lore, collectables and rare gear rewards. You can assemble a skeletal raptor mount for example, or give buffs to raid groups by deciphering runes in dungeons.
Character progression has changed too say Blizz, with spells and abilities no longer ‘ranked’ as they are and will unlock in new orders for every class. The general UI has been given an overhaul as well.
Expect tons more at this year’s BlizzCon as we get closer to Cataclysm’s release.
