More troubling is that the studio team behind it has been largely laid off, with only some transferring to their other project, Tron: Evolution.
”Disney Interactive Studios confirms the cancellation of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned video game which was scheduled to be released in 2011,” said Disney Interactive VP of communication, Angela Emery.
”As a result of this decision, Disney Interactive Studios completed a restructuring of Propaganda Games, its Vancouver, BC internal studio, affecting one of the studio’s two development teams.” Rumours say around 100 have been laid off.
”The studio is still in active production of TRON: Evolution, the video game, which will be released on December 7, 2010 with additional DLC (downloadable content) support following the game’s release,” continued Emery.
This is terrible news indeed especially as the ‘Armada of the Damned’ appeared to have such promise with its Fable-esque visual appeal and the freedom to shape your own captain in the rich world of the Pirates of the Caribbean.
Tron: Evolution is a movie-tie to the upcoming Tron: Legacy due at the end of this year. It explores events that lead up to the movie as we take the role of Anon, which is short for anonymous - so clever. Were you looking forward to PotC: Armada of the Damned?
