Now that Minecraft has had a successful launch, Markus “Notch” Persson has stepped down as lead developer, handing those duties to Jens Bergensten.
”Personally, I will now rest for a while, then get back to work refreshed and eager,” Persson stated in his blog, ”I’ll be helping out with Minecraft, of course, but also starting work on some new project.”
Bergensten had assisted Persson in developing Minecraft for a year. Because of this, Persson feels “very confident” handing Minecraft over to him. His chief duties will probably be working on the Xbox Live Arcade version, and keeping the PC version up to date.
Minecraft was released in November to rave reviews.
