People who bought games like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Medal of Honor have found that the Online Pass code simply didn’t work. According to NeoGAF user Guy Legend, “I ordered a brand new copy of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on PS3 from Amazon a couple of days back and received it today. Putting in the online code that came with the game gives the message telling me that the code is either incorrect or no longer valid.”
Some online sites have purchased some older EA games and indeed received an error message stating, ”The code you entered may not be correct or may no longer be valid.” Gamers who have contacted EA customer support have found themselves given the runaround. One user, after submitting a fourth ticket for the same issue was told, “there’s something wrong with (EA’s) system and that the online codes won’t work.”
While it was thought that it could be the result of Sony and Microsoft flushing out old codes, this turned out to be false. Sony stated, ”The system doesn’t flush out older codes…any code with an expiration date is defined by the publisher.” This means that Electronic Arts put the expiration date on the code. As for EA’s terms of service, it only mentions expiration its online title’s subscription services and the trial periods for select content.
Stay tuned, as we’ll be following this situation as it evolves.
