Microsoft almost acquired Crytek in 2003 when they were scouting for ”militaristic first person shooter” developers to complement the Halo franchise. At the time, Crytek was laying the groundwork for Crysis.
While the acquisition never happened, Crytek is now partnered with Microsoft in developing the first person brawling game Ryse.
This could be the start of a cozy relationship between Microsoft and Crytek, but PC fans needn’t worry, since Microsoft is trying to reinvigorate the Games for Windows label as well.
