Information that leads to a prosecution could well earn you more than just a free title or two off the PlayStation Store. Senior Sony bosses haven’t given go-ahead yet.
There are certainly pros and cons to this tactic, although Sony are likely mulling over the response from hacking group Anonymous and those who comprise its ranks. It is believed those associated with the group are behind PSN being brought down.
Senior Sony executives in Tokyo haven’t yet said they want to proceed with the scheme, it is understood. A security expert speaking with the US Congress asserts that Sony had been running severely outdated software to protect their servers; Sony denies this.
”The previous network for Sony Network Entertainment International and Sony Online Entertainment used servers that were patched and updated recently, and had multiple security measures in place, including firewalls,” stated Sony’s Patrick Seybold.
What do you think of Sony running a reward program to catch and prosecute the hackers? Will it just stir up the Anonymous hornets’ nest even worse?
