In a move perhaps marking a new direction for Germany and ‘violent’ videogames, Epic’s Gears of War 3 will be sold completely as intended with no cuts.
The blood will run red and not green. Microsoft kept from publishing the first two because of the strict rules in Germany, but the third just needs you over 18.
The previous two Gears of War games were List A titles, which meant shops could sell them if asked in Germany but any marketing or promotion of the titles were against the law. Gears of War 3 will be identical in content to the US and European versions.
The BPJM ruled that there was no ”relevance for a ban”. List A games are entirely legal to buy for anyone over 18 but Gears of War 3 benefits from being able to enjoy open marketing campaigns and so German retailers will stock it.
Gears of War 3 releases exclusively on Xbox 360 September 20th.
