MCV is reporting that IGN is in the process of selling digital distributor Direct2Drive to Gamefly, the premiere postal game rental company in the US, and that while an official announcement isn’t expected until next week, sources have told MCV the deal is almost complete.
Direct2Drive is a digital download service that is Steam’s #1 competitor, and recently developed a digital rental service, which would synergize with GameFly’s rental service. Direct2Drive is also more popular in Europe and the UK, which GameFly does not currently service.
IGN was recently acquired by UGO.com.
