Mike Daily, a DMA graphics engine coder, has gifted the world this 11-page gem. It reveals what features they intended, as well as missed opportunities.
The design document is dated March 22nd, 1995. It’s been a glorious 16 years since the Grand Theft Auto franchise has taken the world by storm. It was concepted as a ”fun, addicting and fast multi-player car racing and crashing game which uses a novel graphics method”. It evolved though and become an addictive mayhem bonanza.
Also mentioned are three cities to be modelled after the likes of New York, Venice and Miami. The top-down perspective was always intended and a varied mission structure with cops and robbers moments, filled with heists and street races.
Behold the Race’n’Chase glory for yourself on flickr. Look where it led too…
