Coffee Stain Studios, a Swedish developer, has announced that they have signed a five year licensing agreement with Epic Games to use Unreal Engine 3 for their current and upcoming projects, which includes Sanctum, a former Unreal Tournament 3 mod that has been reworked into a full, independent game.
Sanctum had won Epic Games’ $1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest; the game is a self-described first-person shooter/tower defense hybrid, as seen in the video below.
”We’ve had our eye on this talented team since the early days of ‘Sanctum,’ and like previous Make Something Unreal winners, we are so pleased to see Coffee Stain Studios turn their game development dreams into a business,” said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games. ”We will continue to provide them with excellent tools and technology.”
Coffee Stain Studios has announced that a beta version of Sanctum will be available on Steam soon.
