The first skill tree for the Gunzerker is the Rampage skill tree, which fits in with the “zerker” part of the character’s class. For example, the Yippe Ki Yay skill in the Rampage tree adds a chain bonus to killing, so the more enemies killed in a short time, the more of a boost to the Gunzerker’s skills.
The Brawn skill tree makes the Gunzerker more hardy in combat, which turns him into an MMO-styled tank, in which not only does the Gunzerker get a health buff, but he can pull enemies with taunts, allowing teammates to have a more free hand.
Finally, for the “gun” part of the Gunzerker class is the Gun Lust skill tree, in which buffs are added to gun wielding. For example, the No Kill Like Overkill skill converts any extra damage the Gunzerker does to an enemy to health for himself - which is handy if the skill is action while using a one-shot kill sniper rifle.
The Gunzerking class can have some interesting effects when mixing abilities. According to Borderlands lead writer Anthony Burch, players can manipulate the skills so that when the class throws two grenades, the second doesn’t cost ammo. He described, ”What we’re really seeing people do is they will collect a grenade mod which explodes and then throws out additional grenades when those all explode. When you combine that with this it’s like it’s a room clearer. Just very quickly ‘boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.’ Everything dies.’”
Borderlands 2 is tentatively set for a 30th June, 2012 release date for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
