He recently has got to work on inXile’s Wasteland 2, which is one of the franchises he dreamed of returning to. The veteran designer would love a new Torment, and also Knights of the Old Republic III.
Obsidian’s Avellone served as the lead designer for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, which saw a much grittier path followed in a timeline created by BioWare.
”Wasteland 2 at inXile has already been an opportunity to return to one of my favorite franchises, so I can check that off the list (until Wasteland 3),” Chris Avellone told Gameranx. He also listed other IPs it would be his dream to work on: ”The Wire, Firefly, Ghost in the Shell, the Walking Dead (movie or comics), Chronotrigger, Torment (although that’s difficult for a variety of reasons), and Star Wars (I’ve always wanted to do Knights of the Old Republic III and finish the trilogy).”
Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords received something of a mixed reception. It was considerably darker than what would perhaps constitute a ‘traditional’ Star Wars adventure. BioWare developed the original game and set up the timeline, which is thousands of years before the original film trilogy takes place.
Another issue was that the Obsidian sequel was largely incomplete with its ending left savaged by a rushed production schedule. Recently a community created mod has released in a ‘finished state’ that addresses numerable game issues as well as restores content buried in files by the studio.
Project Eternity finished with 73,986 backers pledging a record breaking $3,986,929.
