Obviously that’s the bad news, but the good news is that the 35 staff at Vancouver are being ”offered the opportunity” to work at Rockstar’s new and bigger studio in Oakville, near Toronto.
Oh, err, Rockstar are also relocating their current Toronto team to the new Oakville digs. The studio also plans to add an additional 50 developers in time.
”Expanding Rockstar Toronto and bringing our Canadian development talent together under one roof underscores our commitment to building world-class teams that can make the kind of groundbreaking entertainment experiences Rockstar Games is known for,” said Jennifer Kolbe, publishing and operations VP at Rockstar.
”We believe a single Canadian team will make for a powerful creative force on future projects.”
Consolidation beats liquidation any day of the week. It’s great to hear the team behind Max Payne 3 and Bully lives to code another day, especially when the world is owed at least one more Bully entry, don’t you think? If staff from Vancouver don’t want to join the new Oakville office then they’ll be invited onto other Rockstar teams.
