THQ has apparently registered another trademark at the United States Patent & Trademark Office, two weeks after it was discovered that the publisher registered a trademark for “Evolve”. This time, they’ve trademarked “1666” as a videogame property. THQ registered it on the 22nd February, the same day “Evolve” was registered.
The year 1666 has historically been called Annus Mirabilis (Latin: “Wonderful year”), from the poem by John Dryden published in 1667. Despite the fact that The Great Fire of London struck in that year, Drydan called the year miraculous because 1666 was foretold to be a Biblical disaster - literally, since 666 was The Number of the Beast.
It was also in this year that Isaac Newton made most of his greatest discoveries, including the famed apple falling from a tree that allegedly inspired him to formulate his theories on gravity. It was in this year Newton also made breakthroughs in mathematics with the formulation of calculus.
This has followed the layoffs by THQ in early February, when the company confirmed it had fired over 240 employees.
