Now Darkspore is virtually broken as players are getting slammed with an error code, which means they can’t connect to servers. The issue is so widespread that Steam has removed it from sale.
It continues to be sold via EA’s Origin platform. According to a forum moderator the ”likelihood of it being fixed is zero.” This would effectively mean Darkspore has been retired.
Another error code has also hit players which prevent them from editing existing hero characters on the servers, or from creating new ones. Darkspore was released back in April 2011 and was based off Spore.
”Darkspore is no longer developed. It is for almost all intents & purposes an abandoned title,” writes one forum moderator. ”If you cannot play the game & have flicked through technical issues for any fixes, then contact EA Customer Support; especially if it regards CD-Keys or refunds.” The action-RPG requires a persistent Internet connection to play.
Does the same fate await Maxis’ new SimCity? It’s a much more known franchise so it’s unlikely, but then EA has a habit of delivering this kind of unpleasant surprises. Darkspore had an average Metacritic of 65.
