According to the devs on the official site, “we aren’t idiots, we aren’t high,” and added that they’re doing it to stop computer virus infections, which often happens with pirated games, as some hackers enjoy embedding malware in them.
“We believe that anyone who wants to pirate our game will do so anyways, and feel it’s a much safer bet to offer those people the official link to our game in hopes that they keep their computer’s virus free,” they explained.
For those who want to actually pay for the game, it’s currently on Steam Greenlight, and a price tag of $10-15 is expected.
Pixel Piracy puts the player in the role of a pirate captain, where they must hire a crew, build a ship “block by block”, and plunder the open seas in a fully open-ended world.
