Electronic Arts confirmed during its investor call today that the publisher had laid off roughly 10% of its worldwide staff.
According to CFO Blake Jorgensen, the fired employees will be receiving $16M in severance. The EA personnel count was roughly 9370 employees before the layoffs, and now is around 8400.
This past year saw EA suffering losses, as games like Dead Space 3, SimCity, and Crysis 3 vastly underperformed, while Star Wars: The Old Republic went free-to-play. The losses resulted in the removal of John Riccitiello as CEO of the company, replaced by former CEO Frank Probst.
