The original plan was for the single-player campaign to arrive first, multiplayer modes later. They admit it was ”not an easy decision” but opted for a more ”comprehensive” release.
Demons Of The Past features a free game mode, letting the single-player campaign be experienced co-operatively with other players. A survival mode is also planned.
”We had the choice to either release the single player part first, then follow-up with the new multiplayer modes later, or release it all in one go. We opted for the latter,” said Gennaro Giani of Nordic Games.
“Of course, this was not an easy decision to make, but it reflects our own standards when it comes to gaming more than in single bits and pieces, and this way the gamer will benefit from a comprehensive gaming experience.”
Demons Of The Past is billed as the finale to the SpellForce 2 saga, which is a series that mixes RTS and RPG. The expansion releases January 16th, 2014 and is priced at £17.99 adding five all-new maps to explore.
