Double Fine has announced the puzzle game, Hack ‘n’ Slash, that won the fan vote of the Amnesia Fortnite poll in which the player takes on the role of an elf in an archetypal roleplaying game who survives by… cheating. That is, uses hacking skills to get through the computer game.
To survive in the game, players have to get into the RPG’s code and get around various obstacles.
According to Hack ‘n’ Slash project lead Brandon Dillon, “I’ve always loved games with lots of secrets in them, and when I first discovered a hex editor in an emulator, it dawned on me that I could be a kind of digital treasure hunter—no game could keep even its deepest secrets from me if I adventured long enough in its code and memory.”
Hack ‘n’ Slash will be released for Windows, Mac, and Linux in the first half of 2014.
