Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was notorious for having long cutscenes that forced the player to sit around and do nothing. At an E3 roundtable, series creator Hideo Kojima promised Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain won’t.
”I’m sure you’re worried about if the cutscenes are as long as Metal Gear Solid 4,” Kojima promised, adding that the game will have “less cutscenes (than before). ”If you think of Metal Gear Solids 1-4 as movies, (The Phantom Pain) is going to be like a TV series with episodes.”
This is probably due to the open world nature of The Phantom Pain, as seen at Microsoft’s pre-E3 press briefing.
