Microsoft recently shuttered MSN Messenger after trying to make it its chat software of choice, integrating it in the Xbox Live software. However, the chat service was never seriously adopted.
Since Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5 billion two years ago, it makes sense that the publisher would begin its integration into both Microsoft’s PC and next-generation Xbox holdings.
According to an anonymous source, Microsoft is ”consolidating all their communications technology” around Skype, making it the default chat service on Windows-based PCs and tablets as well as the next-gen console. ”You might jump to the conclusion that we’ll see asynchronous voice and video messages in next-gen Xbox Live,” the source added.
Stay tuned.
